Terms and Conditions

Malvern Dog Grooming
a CONTRACT / RELEASE FORM must be signed to enable us to groom your dog.
Your pet is very important to us. We would like to assure you that every effort will be made to make your pet’s grooming experience as safe and pleasant as possible.
Safety comes first for everyone, people as well as the animals, during the grooming process.
Health or Medical Problems

-
Canine Health and First Aid accredited CPD through Animal Love (RCVS) and (BSAVA)
-
Occasionally, grooming can expose a hidden medical problem or aggravate an existing one. This can occur during, or after, grooming. All medical expenses for veterinary care will be covered the pet owner upon signing this contract / agreement.
Accidents
-
Although accidents are very rare, there is a risk when dealing with animals. Grooming equipment is sharp, and although we use extreme caution and care in all situations, possible problems could occur, including cuts, nicks, scratches, quicking of nails, etc. In most cases, this can happen when an animal is wiggling or moving around. Your pet’s safety and comfort is our number one priority, but in the event of an accident occurring, you will be notified. If however, we feel that the accident is serious and the owner is not onsite, we will seek immediate veterinary care for your pet.
Veterinary Authorisation
-
Medical emergencies. This release gives us full authorisation to seek medical treatment from a locally registered veterinarian.
Vaccinations
-
All pets must be up-to-date with current vaccinations and required to receive annual boosters. Grooming services will NOT take place if out of date.
Bordetella Vaccination (Kennel Cough)
-
This is a respiratory condition caused by a variety of viruses and bacteria of spread by direct contact by dogs. We highly recommend that your dog is immunised and kept up to date with their Kennel Cough vaccine. This will help to prevent the spread of illness and diminish the severity of infection in your pet. With the recommendation that all dogs visiting us be vaccinated against this, if a pet should become infected, all treatments and costs associated will be the pet owners’ responsibility.
Fleas / Ticks
-
We strive to be a flea-free salon. Please ensure your pet is up to date with its flea treatment. This should be done regularly following manufacturer’s instructions. If it is discovered that your pet has fleas, we reserve the right to stop the groom and will contact you to collect your pet. A charge may be applicable for the work carried out on the groom up to that point. If a tick is discovered, you will be notified.
-
There will be an additional £15 charge if your dog has fleas in order to treat the fleas and for the cabin to be fogged.
Dangerous or Aggressive Animals - Refusal of Services
-
We reserve the right to refuse any services at any time. In the event that your pet is too stressed, or becomes dangerous to groom, we may decide to stop or cancel the grooming service at any time before, during or after grooming and a charge will be made for work carried out to that point.
Use of Muzzles
-
Muzzling does not harm your pet and protects both them and the groomer, it may even help to calm a stressed animal, allowing the grooming process to continue. If your pet still acts in a manner that is deemed dangerous, we reserve the right to stop the grooming process at any time and a service fee will be collected. We always prefer not to muzzle unless your pet gives us a reason to and in the event of needing to muzzle, a higher rate may be applied to the groom because pets showing aggression or acute nervousness take much longer to groom.
Interruptions during Grooming
-
For the safety of the animals being groomed as well as the groomer, it is asked that you do not interrupt the groomer during the grooming process. Every effort will be made to ensure that your pet is groomed as safely and calmly as possible, but an excited pet can be dangerous to work on. After dropping your pet off, please do not come back until you pick up time. Please be punctual in collection.
-
If you have any questions after dropping your pet off, please call us.

Collection
-
Please be punctual in your collection, delays in collection will be charged at £5 after the first half hour and then £10 for every half hour thereafter.
Matted Coats
-
Animals with severely matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a dogs coat grow tight, and can ultimately damage and tear its skin, which provides a breeding ground for parasite infections. We will NOT cause serious or undue stress to your dog by de-matting, ie combing through to remove mats.
-
Mats can be very difficult to remove, and may require the dog to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts or abrasions due to the skin growths trapped in the mats.
-
Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin allowing fungus or bacteria to grow, producing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process.
-
After-effects of matt removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of the hair to re-grow.

In some cases, dogs may also exhibit behaviour changes. Prevention is the best defence by scheduling regular grooming appointments every 4-8 weeks. If your dog needs to be shaving to remove matting, we will ask you agree to this procedure and the associated risks. As this process is time consuming and causes additional wear and tear on grooming equipment, there will be an additional charge for this service. (Dependent upon the size of the dog, time taken and associated risks)
Cancellations
-
We request that any cancellations are made at least 48 business hours in advance. Failure to do this can result in an additional charge on the next grooming service, repeated no-shows can lead to refusal to provide service in the future.

Customer Satisfaction
-
Your satisfaction is very important to us. If you are unhappy for any reason, and would like something adjusted, we will be happy to do so when you collect your dog from his, or her, appointment.
Photographs
-
This release form authorises us to take photos of your pet for our client file, website and Social Media pages. All photos taken are the property of the salon.

Matted Dog Policy

MATTED DOG POLICY
Information/Release Form for Malvern Dog Grooming
The skin under matted fur is usually red, swollen, cracked and dangerous to groom. Matted coats and excessive undercoats cause a variety of health problems for your pet. Matted fur does not allow for air circulation to the skin, which can cause hot spots, bacteria and fungus infections. Fleas, ticks and other parasites may be lurking in the coat causing further skin infections. Matted fur also pulls and binds, causing pain to your pet when they move or just simply lie down.
De-matting is traditionally done by using a matt splitter or rake. This is done carefully by a professional since the tools are very sharp to facilitate breaking apart the matts and detangling the fur. In order to get to the root of the matt you are working directly next to the raw and inflamed skin that is almost always present with matted fur. Some salons do offer FULL de-matting services where EVERY matt on your dog is split, combed through and trimmed. I do not offer FULL dematting services but, I do offer PARTIAL dematting services at an extra fee IF your pet falls into these criteria:
-
Your pet has only a select few matts through out their coat which are not close to it’s skin.
-
Your dog is a certain breed that cannot be shaved because of its genetic make-up and would be detrimental to your pet if it were shaved (i.e. Husky) See me for a further list.
A few reasons why I do NOT offer FULL de-matting services (as I only do humane grooming at Malvern Dog Grooming) are as follows:
-
De-matting of younger pets tends to make them dislike grooming to the point that they become VERY difficult to work with, and may even become biters, requiring them to be muzzled in order for them to be groomed at all.
-
De-matting of older pets can be so mentally and physically stressful for them, that it places their health in jeopardy.
-
When a dog is severely tangled or matted, it causes greater stress on the dog to be de-matted. Since your pet has no way of telling us that we are hurting him/her, their only alternative is to bite. Since we do not use tranquilizers at Malvern Dog Grooming , we leave ourselves open to injury. Not to mention the trauma and the pain that goes along with de-matting your dog.
Since skin underneath matts is already raw and inflamed there are higher chances of nicking the skin during de-matting and/or clipping. In the event that your pet is nicked or cut, your signature below authorizes Malvern Dog Grooming to obtain veterinary care at your expense. Malvern Dog Grooming will not be held responsible for any grooming injury to pets with matted coats. This also includes any after-grooming effects of matt clipping procedures, which could include, but are not limited to the following: itchiness, skin redness or self-inflicted irritations/ abrasions from excessive external rubbing. Of course, all precautions will be taken.
If you have a long haired pet and wish to maintain the long length, your dog must be brushed and combed thoroughly on a regular basis, either by your groomer or by doing this yourself at home. If you require assistance in the proper tools or proper use of the tools to accomplish this, I will be happy to assist you. Also, please keep in mind that when a short clip is recommended it is for the health and safety of your dog and the fur does grow back, usually in better condition.
_____________________________________________________________________
I hereby release Malvern Dog Grooming from any responsibility of the above mentioned process and any and all medical problems that may be uncovered and/or occur during the stripping process.
Should my pet need veterinary care after or during the process I agree to pay any and all veterinarians fees for my pet’s care.
I further agree to obtain veterinary attention for my pet within 24 hrs of the grooming date should such action be advised by the staff of Malvern Dog Grooming .
